Both basil and pine nuts each offer nutritional benefits, but they’re not the only healthy ingredients in this classic pesto recipe. Olive oil is a large part of the heart healthy mediterranean diet.
Garlic supports the immune system and can help keep cholesterol under control. Basil provides antioxidant protection as well as anti-inflammatory effects. Pine nuts are a high protein nut that is an excellent source of vitamins B1 and B3, manganese, copper, magnesium, molybdenum, and zinc.
This pesto was delicious. I made it in the vitamix . I had a garden full of basil and this is so easy. It’s my new pesto go to recipe. I cut the salt and used 2 large cloves of garlic. Another reviewer added spinach. Great idea. I will try adding that next time.
Thanks for the recipe.
You are so welcome Lynn! I appreciate the feedback as it helps our community so much. 🙂 I love the idea of adding spinach too thanks for the reminder to try that the next time I make some pesto. Great way to use up fresh grown basil! Warmly ~ Tarashaun
For me, too much salt and garlic. And I like salt and garlic lol.
Haha! Yes me too! Definitely adjust to your taste. 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING Jessica!
Simple and fresh, but very garlicky. I enjoy that, but you may want to cut back to 2-3 cloves. To improve the nutritional value, I added 2 handfuls of raw baby spinach too – delicious!
Love that idea Karen!! We’re garlic lovers over here so thank you so much for sharing your feedback for those that aren’t 😉 HAPPY BLENDING!
SO easy and DELICIOUS! It took me longer to pick the basil than to make the pesto!
